10.24.07 Graphic Design 2

Great job on the final posters everyone! I met with the committee and they were blown away by the quality of the posters. They went on and on about what a strong group of posters there was this time around. So I want to say again, thank you for your hard work. I believe next Wednesday will be the day that they announce the winner and present the prizes for the top 3 poster designs.

Now, regarding the new project, I sent around the brief yesterday. If you have any questions, let me know. On the brief, I said 5 different directions. That might mean 5 roughs or 25 roughs. So, minimum 5. Maximum...? Why don't you work on loving the process with this project. Instead of trying to come up with ideas to finish a project, work on coming up with ideas because you want to be a great designer. Do it for the love of the process. Do it because it is fun, or because you want to succeed after you leave here. Getting the grade should not be your driving force at this point, being great should be.

Good design doesn’t come in a flash of inspiration. You have to spend a substantial amount of time to realize a good and unique design idea. You also have to have lots of ideas. There are always many “right” answers. But you can’t stop with the first idea. What is the second one? What other great ideas are there just below the surface? What wonderful thing will occur to me if I spend an extra 15 minutes thinking about it? When you have five or ten options, you can feel confident that the solution you finally decide to go with is the best one.
